MCP & API

Settings → MCP & API lets AI tools work with your store. You can ask Claude about yesterday’s orders, or let Cursor read your products while it builds a theme. Each tool signs in with your own account, so it can never do more than your role allows. Every change it suggests waits for your approval.

The page has three tabs: Overview, Clients & tokens and Activity log.

Connect an AI tool

  1. Open Settings → MCP & API.
  2. Under Connect a client, pick Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or VS Code.
  3. Follow the 3 steps:
    • Copy the server URL. Every store has its own address.
    • Add it in the tool.
      • Claude: Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector.
      • ChatGPT: Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced settings → Developer mode → Create.
      • Cursor and VS Code: click Add to Cursor or Add to VS Code.
    • Sign in. The tool opens a sign-in page. Sign in with your account, then choose what the tool can use: products, orders, customers, inventory, discounts, content and analytics, each as Read or Read & write. Click Allow.

The tool now shows as Connected. If you belong to more than one store, connect each store separately; each one has its own address.

What AI clients can do

Three switches on the Overview tab apply to every connected tool. Click Save after changing them.

Approving a change

When a tool suggests a change, the Activity log shows a row like “Claude proposed: …, waiting approval”.

  1. Click Open approval on that row.
  2. You see the same preview the AI bar shows: what changes, before and after.
  3. Click Approve, Edit or Cancel.

Waiting changes also appear in Settings → AI → Activity with a Review button. Only the person who connected the tool can approve its changes.

Access tokens (for scripts)

Tokens are for scripts and servers, such as a script that syncs stock from your warehouse software. People should connect a client instead, so their own staff permissions apply.

  1. Go to Clients & tokens and click Create token.
  2. Give it a name, tick only the areas it needs, and pick when it expires: 30 days, 90 days, 1 year or never.
  3. Click Create token. Copy the token now: it is shown only once. Keep it in your server’s secret settings, never in code.

A token acts as you, limited to the areas you ticked. Unlike AI clients, a token’s changes happen at once and do not wait for approval. A token can never change settings, staff, billing or money (no refunds or cancellations).

Revoke a client or token

On Clients & tokens, open the ⋮ menu on a row and click Revoke. It stops working right away. Changes already waiting in AI approvals stay there.

Revoke anything you don’t recognise, and anything belonging to someone who left your team.

Activity log

The Activity log tab shows everything clients and tokens did in the last 90 days, newest first, grouped by day:

  • Reads: a tool read your data, such as “Claude read sales”.
  • Changes: something changed.
  • Waiting approval: a suggested change you haven’t approved yet.
  • Blocked: a switch or a token’s areas stopped something.

Each tool and token can make up to 120 requests a minute, so one tool can’t slow your store. Click Export CSV to download the whole log.
