Monthly expenses

Order profit leaves out what it costs to run the shop. Add those costs here and the Profit report shows net profit for each month: the month’s order profit less these expenses.

Adding an expense

Select Add expense and fill in:

  • Name, like Shop rent or Packer salary.
  • Category: staff and salaries, rent and office, apps and website, marketing, electricity internet and phone, accounting and other services, or other.
  • Amount per month. If you are GST-registered, type it before GST (you claim the GST back); if not, type what you actually pay.
  • First month it counts in.
  • Repeats every month: on for rent and salaries. Turn it off for a one-off cost (it counts in its first month only). A last month is optional: leave it empty while you keep paying.

Changing an expense

Select the pencil and pick Change from: the month the new amount starts. Months before it keep the old amount, so past profit never changes. The list then shows both: the old amount up to the month before, and the new one from your chosen month.

To stop paying something, edit it and set its last month. Delete is for an expense entered by mistake: it stops counting in every month, past ones too.

The month in progress

A month that is not over yet counts only the days gone. On the 10th of a 30-day month, ₹30,000 of rent counts as ₹10,000 “so far”, the same share of the month as the orders so far. The top of the page shows what this month carries so far.

Try it

  1. Open Settings → Monthly expenses and select Add expense.
  2. Add your rent from the month you started, repeating every month.
  3. Open Analytics → Reports → Profit by month: the Monthly expenses and Net profit columns now use it.
