EMI & pay later
EMI & pay later is a built-in app. It adds a short line under the price on your product pages, like or ₹1,000/month with EMI or pay later, so shoppers see a big purchase can be split into monthly payments. With Razorpay it shows Razorpay’s own offers box instead, with your real banks, plans and offers.
What this is for
- Helping shoppers say yes to higher-priced products.
- Showing no-cost EMI or bank offers you already set up in Razorpay, before checkout.
Before you start
The app only shows offers shoppers can actually use, so two things need to be on first:
- Razorpay or Cashfree is taking payments (Settings → Payments).
- EMI is on at checkout: in Settings → Payments, under “Shoppers can pay with”, turn on EMI.
The app’s page tells you, in one line, which of these is still missing and links to it.
Set it up
Install
Open Apps, find EMI & pay later under Built-in apps, and select Install.
Pick who gives the EMI
Open Apps → EMI & pay later. Under Who gives the EMI, pick the payment company your checkout uses:
- Razorpay shows Razorpay’s offers box, with your banks, tenures and offers from your Razorpay account.
- Cashfree shows a simple monthly price.
Set the lowest price
Under Lowest price, enter the cheapest product that should show the line. The default is ₹1,000, which is where most lenders start. Cheaper products show nothing.
Save
Select Save. The line at the top says Live once shoppers can see it. Open any product over your lowest price on your store to check.
How the monthly price is worked out
The simple line divides the price by 12 months and rounds up, the way a no-cost EMI plan looks: a ₹12,000 product shows or ₹1,000/month. It is an estimate; the real plan (tenure, interest, eligibility) is decided by the bank or lender at checkout.
With Razorpay, Razorpay’s offers box replaces the line once it loads and shows the real plans for your account. If it can’t load (a slow connection, or an ad blocker), the simple line stays, so there is always something under the price.
Where it shows
- Under the price on every product page, following the variant the shopper picks. The theme editor’s EMI hint under the price switch on the product section turns it off.
- Anywhere else on the product page: in the theme editor, Add → Apps → EMI offers. This copy uses the product’s first available variant.
Only one Razorpay offers box can show on a page. If you place both, one of them shows it and the other shows the simple line, so there is no need to add the block when the line under the price is on.
Dark mode, phones and motion
- The simple line uses your theme’s colours, so it looks right in light and dark mode.
- In dark mode the simple line shows instead of Razorpay’s box, so shoppers never get a bright white panel on a dark page.
- It fits phone screens, and it only fades in when the shopper’s phone allows animations.
Common problems and fixes
| Problem | Why it happens | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Nothing shows under the price | EMI is off at checkout, or the gateway isn’t set up. | Follow the link at the top of Apps → EMI & pay later. |
| Nothing shows on one product | It costs less than your lowest price. | Lower the Lowest price. |
| Simple line instead of Razorpay’s box | Cashfree is picked, the page is in dark mode, or Razorpay’s box couldn’t load. | Pick Razorpay, or check in light mode. |
| Razorpay’s box shows no offers | No EMI or offers are set up in your Razorpay account. | Set them up in the Razorpay Dashboard. |
FAQ
Does this cost anything?
The app is free. EMI and pay later fees are between you and your payment company, the same as any other payment.
Is my Razorpay secret key shared?
No. Razorpay’s offers box only needs your public Key ID (the rzp_... value), the same one
checkout already uses in the shopper’s browser. Your secret key stays encrypted on the server.
What happened to the old EMI hint?
Stores without this app keep the older built-in “EMI from ₹X/month” hint when Razorpay EMI is on. Once you install this app, it takes over that spot.
