Delivery options
Delivery options is a built-in app, free on every plan. Install it from the App store. It turns the courier apps you already connected (Couriers: Delhivery, Shiprocket, RapidShyp, Blue Dart, DTDC and the rest) into the choices your customers see at checkout:
( ) Standard · Delhivery Arrives Mon 3 Nov – Wed 5 Nov Free
(•) Express · Blue Dart Arrives Fri 31 Oct ₹150
Cash on delivery not available with this option
[x] Insure this shipment (+₹40)Without the app (or with the app but no options), checkout shows your Shipping rates exactly as before.
Routes
A route is one courier through one app: Delhivery direct (its own app), or Blue Dart through Shiprocket. Each route has its own price, transit time, cash on delivery and insurance. Direct Delhivery is usually the cheapest way to send with Delhivery; an aggregator usually costs more for the same courier.
The customer always sees the courier (“Blue Dart”), never the aggregator (“Shiprocket”).
The Routes card lists your connected courier apps. Under each app, a health line shows how checkout’s calls to it went over the last day: the share that answered, how long it typically takes, and its last error. A Skipped chip means the app failed 3 times within a minute, so checkout stopped asking it for 5 minutes (see When couriers are down). Under the apps, a line says how many checkouts in the last 24 hours fell back to your Shipping rates.
To see every route they offer for a PIN code, run Try a PIN (below): the routes appear in the Routes card, and Edit on a row sets that route up.
Route settings
No courier API says whether a route insures your parcel, so you tell the app:
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Insures parcels | Default: Delhivery direct and every aggregator route insure; Blue Dart direct, DTDC direct and the rest do not. Change it when your contract says otherwise. |
| Insurance rate | % of the order value, with an optional minimum ₹. Used when the courier’s quote does not list insurance itself. |
| Cost card | First 500 g, each further 500 g and a COD fee, for couriers that give no live price (Blue Dart, DTDC and Shadowfax direct). Without one, such a route cannot back an option. |
| Use this route at checkout | Turn a route off without disconnecting the app. |
You can save a setting for one exact route, or for a courier through a channel (“Delhivery, direct”, “Blue Dart, any aggregator”).
Insurance rates start empty. Until you fill in a rate, an insured option adds ₹0 for insurance and the app page shows a warning. Insurance itself is whatever your courier account provides (Shiprocket’s “Secure shipment”, Delhivery’s contract): the app does not turn it on at the courier.
Delivery options
Each option is one card at checkout. Add Standard and Express creates the usual pair:
- Standard: picks the cheapest route (a tie goes to the direct route). Cash on delivery is allowed.
- Express: picks the fastest route (a tie goes to the cheaper one). Express is always prepaid only.
Open an option to change:
| Card | Settings |
|---|---|
| Name and display | The card’s name and an optional line under it |
| Routes and strategy | Speed (Standard or Express), cheapest or fastest, prefer a direct route when it costs at most ₹X more, and which routes it may use |
| Price | Courier cost + your markup (₹ and/or %) + insurance, rounded up to the next ₹10; or your Shipping rates. Free above an order value, a minimum and a maximum |
| Insurance | On by default (the customer can untick it), optionally only above an order value |
| Arrival | The courier’s transit time or fixed days, buffer days, processing days, and a limit that hides slower routes |
| Cash on delivery | Allowed or prepaid only |
Cash on delivery on Standard
The customer picks shipping before payment, so Standard is worked out twice: once for prepaid and once for cash on delivery (routes without COD left out). If paying on delivery ships with a different route at a different price, the Payment step says so: “Cash on delivery: +₹30, ships with Delhivery”, and that route is what the order books.
Product route rules
Rules decide which routes some products may use, before any option picks one:
- Glasspads (collection) → all options → Delhivery only. Standard becomes Delhivery Surface, Express becomes Delhivery Express.
- Mice (collection) → Express → Delhivery Express by default, with Blue Dart Air as a choice the customer can switch to. Standard is untouched.
A rule targets products, collections, product tags or product types; applies to all options or some; lists the allowed routes (courier, channel, speed); and can name a default and alternatives (shown as choices under the option, each with its own date and price). Always insured hides the insurance checkbox.
Mixed carts: the app keeps the routes every matching rule allows. When nothing is common, the rule higher in the list wins (reorder with the arrows). Put the protective rule (Glasspads, insured) above the convenience one (Mice).
Try a PIN
Type a PIN code, an order value and weight, and optionally pick products. Try shows the cards exactly as checkout would, and under each option every route’s quote: cost, insurance, arrival date, COD, live or cache (and how long the courier took), which were dropped and why, which won and why (“cheapest”, “direct preferred within ₹10”, “default of rule Glasspads”), and which rules applied.
When couriers are down
Checkout never waits more than about a second on couriers. The app remembers each courier’s answer for a PIN code, weight and order value: for 6 hours it is used straight away, and for up to 7 days it stands in whenever the courier does not answer in time (while the app asks it again in the background for the next customer). A courier app that fails 3 times within a minute is skipped for 5 minutes, so an outage does not slow checkout.
If none of an option’s couriers answer in time and none has a saved answer:
- Express is hidden: a date nobody checked is worse than no option.
- Standard shows at your Shipping rate with your usual transit days. The order saves no route and books with your courier rule (product route rules still apply). The order page marks it Placed on backup.
“We don’t deliver to this PIN code” shows only when every courier truly said no.
Booking
The order saves the exact route the customer’s price came from (for example Blue Dart Air via Shiprocket, insured). On the order:
- Create shipment opens with that route picked and marked Chosen at checkout, with what the customer paid. You can still pick another row on purpose; the order’s timeline then notes which route you booked instead.
- If that route cannot be booked any more (app disconnected, PIN no longer served), the dialog says why and names the next route that still fits (product rules, insurance, COD, speed).
- Bulk booking books each order on its own route, through its own app. Orders whose route fails are not swapped to another courier: they come back as “Needs a decision” for you to book from the order.
- The AWB, label and tracking come from the route’s app, and the shipment records the carrier (Blue Dart) as well as the app (Shiprocket).
On the order
Orders placed through the app have a Delivery option card: the option and courier (“Express · Blue Dart”), the service and app (“Bluedart Air via Shiprocket”), whether it is insured, and the promised dates. Placed on backup shows when couriers were down at checkout.
If you can see profit, the card also shows the shipping margin: what the customer paid for shipping, less the courier cost and the insurance. The courier cost is the booking’s own charge once the parcel is booked (or the one you type in the Profit card), and the price the courier quoted at checkout before that. A negative margin is shown in red.
